Francisco Fernández G. Fletes has more than 20 years of experience, he specializes in contentious and non-contentious aspects of insurance, reinsurance, dispute resolutions and arbitrations. He has represented insurance and reinsurance companies, brokers and Lloyd’s syndicates’ interests in a domestic and international context, including defending insureds in energy, infrastructure and environmental issues. He brings valuable insight from his work with both public and private institutions.
His core practice areas are environmental liability, energy, fraud, fidelity bonds, and construction liability.
Francisco also has acted as an arbitrator and as counsel for parties in a significant number of commercial arbitrations and disputes, having a significant impact both in Mexico and across the Americas, such as:
- Co-Arbitrator in a dispute over mining damage.
- Chair of the arbitration panel in disputes related to petrochemicals.
- Counsel in arbitrations related to infrastructure projects.
- Co-arbitrator in disputes involving international contracts in telecommunications disputes between Mexico, the U.S., and Canada.
- Counsel and arbitrator in several reinsurance disputes.
He has been listed in 500 Legal and Chambers and Partners since 2014 and has been recognized as the Top Latin American Lawyer specializing in Insurance and Reinsurance since 2016.
He spent more than 13 years at DAC BEACHCROFT (DACBE), as Mexico Office Partner; opening the first English Legal Firm in Mexico in 2004 specialized in Insurance and Reinsurance as DAVIES ARNOLD COOPER, S.C. He has also participated with other DACBE Offices in Europe and Latin America in providing legal opinion related to insurance and reinsurance contracts under Mexican law.
He was President of AMEDESEF (Mexican Association of Insurance and Bonds Law) until 2017.
